Magnetic Properties of Ferrofluid Change Over Time: Implications for Magnetic Pore Fabric Studies
نویسندگان
چکیده
The anisotropy of magnetic susceptibility ferrofluid-impregnated samples is an efficient and powerful proxy for pore space preferred flow directions. One the main assumptions in fabric studies that all pores >10–20 nm are homogeneously filled with ferrofluid, ferrofluid has constant properties throughout over time. If only part filled, this can lead to artifacts. Additionally, because a given depends on fluid susceptibility, quantitative interpretations may be affected by interval between impregnation measurement time, or age during impregnation, unless remain constant. A careful investigation time variation fabrics synthetic natural shows time-dependence hysteresis properties, related dissolution particle surfactants, deterioration colloidal stability. latter leads aggregation sedimentation, which changes also affects behavior. Natural impregnated oil-based experience 2.5–3-fold increase mean important consequences susceptibility-based determination efficiency. Based our results, we recommend determined at measured shortly after impregnation.

Spruce sawdust (lignocellulose material) was magnetically modified after contact with a water-based magnetic fluid containing maghemite nanoparticles. This procedure allows one to use the prepared material as a new magnetic affinity adsorbent in magnetic separation techniques. The magnetic sawdust was investigated by means of electron spin resonance spectroscopy and conventional magnetic method...

The susceptibility and specific heat experimental results of the diluted magnetic semiconductors (DMS) are incorporated in a model based on short-range as well as long-range interaction in a random may of magnetic ions. The so-called nearestneighbor pair approximation (NNPA) is applied. It appears that the calculated values of zero field specific heat and Curie-Weiss temperature based on th...

Scanning Hall Probe Microscopy (SHPM) is a scanning probe microscopy technique developed to observe and image magnetic fields locally. This method is based on application of the Hall Effect, supplied by a micro hall probe attached to the end of cantilever as a sensor. SHPM provides direct quantitative information on the magnetic state of a material and can also image magnetic induction under a...
متن کاملConfined ferrofluid droplet in crossed magnetic fields.
When a ferrofluid drop is trapped in a horizontal Hele-Shaw cell and subjected to a vertical magnetic field, a fingering instability results in the droplet evolving into a complex branched structure. This fingering instability depends on the magnetic field ramp rate but also depends critically on the initial state of the droplet. Small perturbations in the initial droplet can have a large influ...
